If you are a special education teacher, clinic coordinator, or have a child with special educational needs, we encourage you to consider Greenville Wordsmiths. In fact, nothing makes us happier! Adrienne trained as a behavior analyst before founding Greenville Wordsmiths, and she was a therapist for children with autism for over four years.
Greenville County currently has 9,893 students with IEPs, approximately 5,000 of whom are enrolled in grades 3-8 (our target age range). Of those students, 66% failed the end-of-year writing exam in 2013 -- many because they would not even attempt the task. Writing is scary and overwhelming sometimes. But by starting with the child's imagination and building confidence in his/her personal voice, we hope to make every student - regardless of label or diagnosis - a writer.
